Hike the Land Trust Challenge: Bethel Spring

wearehuntsville.com

Bethel Spring Nature Preserve is a 360-acre property on Keel Mountain with 200 acres open for outdoor recreation. The preserve currently offers hikers a little under two miles of free trails to explore from dawn to dusk daily, including upland forest, working farmland, historic sites, an environmentally-significant spring and creek, as well as one of Madison County’s largest waterfalls.

Join this moderate hike! This hike begins and ends alongside farm fields and Bethel Creek with views of Keel Mountain rising above. Stop by the remains of the spring house on your way up Carpenter Trail. Then climb the short but rocky way up Falling Sinks Trail to the showstopper waterfall. After pausing to take a break and enjoy the view, we’ll return downhill via Mill Trail.

You don’t need fancy equipment! However, it is recommended to bring:

  • long pants and comfortable shoes with good tread
  • bottled water
  • hiking sticks
  • trail snacks
  • a camera to capture the experience
  • dogs welcome, but must be on leads.
