Huntsville City Schools will hold graduations June 25-26, 2020, at the Von Braun Center amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Masks will be distributed to graduates to wear during commencement ceremonies next month for Huntsville City Schools at the Von Braun Center’s Propst Arena.

The school board on Thursday set new graduation dates for its six high schools at a virtual meeting.

Attendance will be limited to four people per graduate, according to guidelines set by the school board, and everyone will be asked to wear masks.

The schedule approved by the school board:

June 25, 2020

  • 10 a.m.: New Century Technology High School
  • 2 p.m.: Lee High School
  • 6 p.m.: Grissom High School

June 26, 2020

  • 10 a.m.: Jemison High School
  • 2 p.m.: Columbia High School
  • 6 p.m.: Huntsville High School

The school system also said that attending commencement ceremonies is optional for students.

Graduations will also be streamed online by the school system on the system’s website and ETV.

Each graduation ceremony will be abbreviated, the school system said, in order to provide time for crews to clean between ceremonies. Ceremonies are scheduled four hours apart.

If health restrictions prohibit holding graduations in June, the school board has also reserved the VBC for July 13-14. The school system is also considering additional locations as alternate sites in case health guidelines do not allow the ceremonies to take place at the VBC.
