Juneteenth celebrations in Huntsville

Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It is also called Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day. The name “Juneteenth” references the date of the holiday, combining the words “June” and “nineteenth.” It is celebrated annually on June 19th. Juneteenth was originally celebrated in Texas, on June 19th, 1866. It marked the first anniversary of the day that African Americans there first learned of the Emancipation Proclamation, more than two years after it was initially issued.

Huntsville is hosting a variety of celebrations to honor the holiday:

This events will bring together a great lineup of entertainment and will also have educational elements through the day! There will also be an educational art walk that will let people read the story of the holiday.

Huntsville’s Black Market: A Juneteenth Celebration 2

This Juneteenth event is in remembrance of how far Huntsville’s Black Market has come and how far we are going.

This celebration/networking/educational event will allow the people in our community and other communities to see what businesses and ideas currently exist in Huntsville and surrounding areas.

This event will create larger more sustainable networks, business opportunities, and empower others who wish to start their own business endeavors or create change.

This event is a part of Black Huntsville Restaurant Week and Juneteenth. There will be live music, featuring a performance from Chrisette Michele, food trucks, and various vendors.
