A Montgomery couple experienced an incredible reunion when they discovered their beloved cat alive two months after believing he died in their apartment fire.
Dajanera Jones and Daniel Mobley lived on the third floor of Verandas at Taylor Oaks apartments when lightning struck their building in June. During the emergency evacuation, Jones managed to rescue their two dogs. However, she couldn’t locate their orange and white cat, Moon, despite multiple attempts to find him.
“I kept going back in like four or five times to find him,” Jones explained. “I kept calling him. I just could not find him, and then one of our neighbors pulled me out.”
The couple had rescued Moon five years earlier. Meanwhile, they relocated to another building within the same complex while grieving their pet’s presumed death.
Recently, a neighbor mentioned seeing a long-haired cat near their old, boarded-up building. The description matched Moon perfectly. Furthermore, the neighbor called Jones the next morning with urgent news.
“She called and said, ‘I see him again. You have to come right away,'” Jones recalled. “Sure enough, she took a picture, and there was Moon in a bush.”
Remarkably, Moon appeared completely healthy and uninjured. The indoor cat had apparently survived by living in the damaged Montgomery apartment building’s remains. Additionally, his reunion occurred exactly two months after the fire.
After a veterinary checkup, Moon returned home to his new apartment. His best friend, Y’shtola, their 60-pound dog, immediately welcomed him back. Consequently, the two pets resumed their close bond.
“It was like a miracle moment to see him there,” Jones said. “For her to see him again, she basically just laid down on the ground next to his crate when we got home.”
