The Laquan is an annual fundraiser created to raise awareness and fund mental health and wellness supports for Muskoka youth, in memory of my son Quin. On Sept. 26, an outdoor concert was held at the Huntsville Fairgrounds, raising approximately $23K. All proceeds will go directly back into the community through the Muskoka Community Foundation to support much-needed local initiatives.

Thank you to our major sponsors that made this possible: Jamie Lockwood Sutton Group, Al’s Taxi, R&G Construction, HRC Insurance, Royal Canadian Legion Huntsville, Wayne Simpson and Associates, Kimberly-Clark, Nydock and Giant Tiger. Thanks to all the individuals and businesses that sponsored shirts and hoodies, the promotions by Hunters Bay Radio and Pure Country, various local businesses in Huntsville that donated auction and raffle items, Laurie Bachelder and Beth and Glen Skidmore for supplying accommodation for the out-of-town bands, Dave and Wendy Strickler for their time and for hosting participants, Bonnie DeCaro and Shawn McKeowan for supplying and cooking fabulous meals for us, Steve Sommerset and Jeff Edwards for providing BBQ food at the event, Tina Simpkin for helping to promote The Laquan, Muskoka Rent-All for donating the tent and BBQ and all the fabulous friends that volunteered their time and support – Sue and Darin Brown, Spring and Seth Craymer, Tammy Brenning, Pam Kelly, Tony King from Georgian Bay Spirit Co., the sound and stage guys, Jocelyn Mills for her wonderful photos and Muskoka Springs water.

It truly takes a village to raise our children. Without the support and involvement of our community, this would never have happened. It was about more than raising money this year; it was about a community opening their hearts together to lift each other up through music, friendship and laughter. It was a beautiful day and we all left feeling better than when we came.

I would like to thank my husband Terry Booth for his unconditional love and support and the bands River Town Saints, Lemon Cash and the Griffon Brothers for making The Laquan 2020 so memorable!

If you are a business that would like to be involved next year, please contact Elizabeth Booth at Hair 'N' There at 705-571-6733 or [email protected]. We have more T-shirts and hoodies available for sale.

Plans are already in the works for 2021 – hope to see you all there.
