Employees at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama Inc. on Pulaski Pike in Huntsville have tested positive for coronavirus, according to a company spokesperson.

Spokesperson Kim Ogle did not say how many employees have tested positive for coronavirus or how many, if any at all, currently are sick or quarantining due to coronavirus. She also declined to say when the employees tested positve for the virus.

In April, the company unveiled safety measures aimed at helping protect employees from the spread of the virus. (Read about that here)

Ogle said that the company started a safety campaign for its workers outside of the plant called "Safe Anywhere." It encourages safety guidelines for employees like wearing face-coverings in public, choosing outdoor dining options when eating at restaurants and avoiding large crowds.

Here’s Ogle’s complete statement:

"We can confirm that some Toyota employees have tested positive for COVID-19. Out of respect for the privacy of our employees, we are not sharing additional details about cases. When we discover a positive case, the affected employee will remain in quarantine, and will not return to work until cleared by a physician.

“The health and safety of our employees are a top priority and we believe the protocols in place will minimize the spread of COVID-19. Our facility has implemented many policies and procedures to help ensure their health and safety. They include:

  • Following federal, state, and local health and safety guidelines
  • Taking the temperature of everyone who comes to work at our facility
  • Requiring all employees and visitors to answer a questionnaire to identify any potential exposure risks to COVID-19
  • Practicing social distancing on the job, during lunch and breaks, and during shift changes
  • Implemented appropriate reconfigurations and other physical changes throughout our facilities to promote and facilitate safe practices
  • Use of face masks/coverings, face shields, gloves and hand sanitizer
  • Frequent sanitizing of work stations and high-traffic areas (including break areas and restrooms)
  • Special cleaning protocols as related to contact tracing
  • Implemented a campaign called “Safe Anywhere” encouraging employees to practice Toyota protocols outside of the plant and at home
