HUNTSVILLE – Town of Huntsville says Canada Day celebrations, including town-hosted fireworks, have been cancelled for 2020 to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The decision, stated the town in a media release, was confirmed during the May 27, 2020, electronic council meeting in accordance with the Province of Ontario’s Emergency Order.

Residents are asked to monitor the Muskoka fire danger rating for use of private bonfires and fireworks on the outdoor burning page at huntsville.ca.

As an alternative way to celebrate, residents are encouraged to celebrate virtually from coast to coast with Canadian Heritage. Details about the virtual event can be found here:

If you do plan on socializing with family and friends, stated the town, make sure to follow recommended best health practices from Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Residents and visitors are asked to maintain a physical distance of two metres (six feet) while socializing (with no more than 10 people) who are not part of your household or social circle.
