Wing It On!, a franchise based in Raleigh, N.C., looks to open several locations in Alabama.

A growing restaurant franchise wants to bring locations to Alabama as part of a general expansion in the east, and is looking for franchisees.

Wing It On! recently moved its corporate headquarters to Raleigh, N.C. from Connecticut, and is planning multiple restaurants throughout the Southeast, and Birmingham in particular.

Founded in 2011, Wing It On! specializes in takeout wings with 24 flavors, dipping sauces and several varieties of chicken sandwiches. The company plans to open a Prattville location this fall.

Marty Welch, vice president of sales and development for the company, said Wing It On! is currently speaking with franchise candidates in the Birmingham area. The company hopes to open three to five locations in Birmingham, with two locations each in Huntsville, Montgomery and Mobile.

“It’s a big economic growth market for us,” Welch said of the Birmingham area. “It’s very favorable, low costs, business friendly, and we think we could have a lot of success there. There’s UAB, good universities, and we have a big following with college students.”

Welch said the company has fared well during the COVID-19 pandemic, as its business is carry-out.

“We’ve seen an uptick of about 30 to 40 percent in same store sales,” he said. “We’re very confident moving forward. The fact is people are looking for a clean facility, food produced in a safe environment, and we have a great digital experience with our mobile app and third-party delivery services. We have a small footprint, as our restaurants are 1,000 to 1,500 square feet. We think we are poised for growth.”

The company recently signed a multi-unit deal for the Atlanta area, and is looking at expansion as far west as Texas.

“Wings is becoming a staple product,” he said. “It’s very common now, like burgers, sandwiches and pizza. It’s not just a sports bar food. It’s center of the plate. And our buttermilk breaded chicken sandwich is up there with the big boys.”
