“To build up a library is to create a life. It’s never just a random collection of books.”

– Carlos María Domínguez

We totally agree with this profound quote – libraries are indeed places where a life is created, whether a life from the book or a life of community. As R. David Lankes said: “…great libraries build communities.”

Today we’re presenting two libraries in Huntsville: Huntsville-Madison County Public Library and Madison Public Library.

Huntsville-Madison County Public Library

This is the oldest public library system in Alabama, originally founded in 1818, but since then, it has gone through many restorations and moved into newer buildings through the years.

With over half-a-million books, digital collections and other resources in their facility they are constantly getting new members. Some services they are offering: free GED tutoring, job training, computer classes, private room reservations and social services.

They are often holding Storytime events, the next one is today, on May 18th: Pop-Up Storytime in the Park. Head here for more info. Check out their YouTube channel here.
